Why do we need NTFS driver on macOS Sierra?
In short, the population of Microsoft Windows is the answer for this question. macOS has developed quite fast in the last few years, but Windows is still everywhere. It is the fact. The proportion of Windows in computer OS is approximately 90% (to June, 2016) and NTFS is the File System of Windows. Therefore, you will have to work with this kind of File System even you are using an macOS device.
It is true, there are many times you use an USB, a Remove Hard Disk, or even when you want to write something in the Windows Partition in your macOS device (If you use Boot Camp to install MS Windows on your mac). In this case, you need NTFS driver on Mac for the attached Hard Disk.
Can Apple solve this problem?
Defining or working with a File System format is very complicate. However, it is not a big problem with Apple – one of the biggest technical company. Technically, Apple supports NTFS in the core of macOS but it is quite hard to enable and use this function. It means that Apple can but they don’t want to make it to be easy or popular. In my opinion, it is because Apple thinks that supporting NTFS is the way which evident that Windows is more popular, NTFS is “must have” File System. Apple will never recognize that. Or Apple want to give opportunity to third party product such as Paragon NTFS for macOS, NTFS 3G or Tuxera NTFS for Mac.
Free NTFS for macOS solution
There are three free ways to help you read and write smoothly to NTFS partition on macOS Sierra
- Manually enable the native function for every time you need
- Automatically mount NTFS drive and use macOS native function with Mounty – freeware
- Use NTFS-3G – an open source which supports to read-write NTFS on macOS.
If you rarely use NTFS in macOS, I suppose one of three free solutions as I mentioned in these post is enough. If you ask me about my choice, I suggest Mounty. However, from my experience and other users’ opinion, these solutions need advanced skill in using macOS. It is inconvenience as well (see detail in listed posts).
You can google and see some more recommendations of freeware for macOS Sierra such as: NTFSReady for OSX, NTFS Mounter or SL-NTFS. All of them have some limitations such as only work well on particular macOS version: NTFS Mounter is recommended for Snow Leopard users only while SL-NTFS can’t work on macOS from version Mac OS X 10.9 Yosemite to now – Sierra. One more thing that convince you should waste time to try these software is the programmers/producers stoped to update or support to develop all of them.
I would recommend 2 competitors (In fact, these applications dominate others so I knew and tried these 2 only) are Paragon NTFS for mac and Tuxera NTFS for mac.
Firstly, Tuxera NTFS for mac
It could say that this software is commercial version of NTFS-3G. At first, Tuxera company create and maintain NTFS-3G as an open source project. They still do it now. So you can understand that for the same problem: read and write NTFS on mac, Tuxera offers users two solut
ions: the free one is NTFS-3G and for those who agree to pay money for some advances function is Tuxera NTFS for mac. You can find detail information about this product from homepage. I list here some major and noticeable info only:
|System Requirements||Supported platforms: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), 10.5 (Leopard), 10.6 (Snow Leopard), 10.7 (Lion), 10.8 (Mountain Lion), 10.9 (Mavericks), 10.10 (Yosemite) and 10.11 (El Capitan)|
|General Features||Create NTFS partitions|

|Advanced Features||Smart caching for high-performance read/write|
Automatic translation of file names

Another good recommendation: Paragon NTFS for Mac
Honestly, I have never install Tuxera NTFS for mac on my Macbook. It is because I tried NTFS-3G and I think Tuxera share the same technical properties with it. I want to try a new one and after reading reviews and comparing the functions I decided to install Paragon NTFS for mac. Not hundred percent but I am happy with this application. For me, it is a good deal because the software from Paragon company looks better but cheaper.
It is quite easy and I will not discuss in this page about how to install this app, it take a few second with common step. Because you install a driver so all thing you have to do is click Next button. Finishing the final step, you some time realize that you have never install this software, working with NTFS drive, partition like natural now.I share the coupon in this page, it is the biggest deal, you can use it to save 25% of your money if you want to use this product. You can click on coupon code to copy it, the order page from Paragon will be open where coupon is applied.

I hope that and it could be in the next time, I will do comparing Tuxera NTFS vs Paragon in technical functions such as read and write speed of Tuxera and Paragon especially with big file or with many small files in the same time. Someone have experiences with Tuxera NTFS for mac or with both can share your ideas in the commend of this post to help other people choose a right product.
Welcome you all
